The squad have been strengthened with two more players penning one year deals.
Experienced goalkeeper Kenny Arthur has joined the club, 34 year old Kenny will also be undertaking some goalkeeping coaching with the club as he is already well on the way to gaining the requiste badges. With 427 career appearances Kenny is most well known for a 10 year stint at Partick Thistle, he moved down to England to play with Accrington Stanley, Rochdale United and Grimsby Town, last season Kenny was at Airdrie Utd.
Also signing on at the club is 21 year old defender Steven Black, Steven joins the club after leaving Palmerston at the end of the season. The youngster lives in Gretna and will not only give the manager options in defense but also in that position in front of the back four.
After today’s double training session Manager Jim Chapman commented ” The squad is coming together really well, the guys put in a tremendous shift and knuckled down to some serious graft today.” On the two latest squad additions he added ” I’m delighted to get Kenny on board, he was our prime target for the vacant keeper position and will really push Alex on, Kenny’s experience will be invaluable and he will be able to further develop and increase his coaching skills at the club. In Steven we have added another youngster, a local boy as well, we had Steven on a short term loan last season when he wasn’t fully match sharp, with a good pre-season our hopes are really high for Steven, another youngster with quality and hunger to add to the experienced players in the squad.”
