Annan Athletic Supporters Club News
It was a day of mixed fortunes last Saturday. Plug Irving and Jazz Johnston were the quiz victors (phenomonal when you saw the difficulty Plug had with the juke box in the Ochilview Bar), after what must be the longest ever play off decider against Smudger and Hopper. It was a very high class quiz though; eg. What is a vim vim? For all the animal lovers it is a pig! or how do you address a duke (answer Your Grace ), Jimmy Pool Snr. was almost as chuffed to get that one right as winning the scratch card prize.
To the game - Annan started brightly enough but were 2 goals down after 32 minutes. Out they came for the second half and hopes were raised when Mike Jack smashed in a superb 25 yarder but only a minute later the game was more or less over when Shire struck their 3rd. and final goal. So all the unfortunate victims (no names ), ejected by the over zealous stewards for standing too near to a wall didn’t miss much. An East Stirlingshire fan even mentioned he was warned for sitting a pie and Bovril on the wall – is there no such thing as common sense now? The friendly social nature at the relatively low crowds in the Third Division surely doesn’t warrant such harsh action. Anyway, Jack Steel was voted the best Annan player by the travelling support but the points have been totalled up for the season and the Away Days winner this season is that good servant of the club Chris Jardine. The Supporters Club Player of the Year is Graeme Bell. Both will be presented with their awards on the pitch immediately after the Berwick Rangers game.
This being the last report of the year I would like to thank all the supporters who have been targeted for graciously accepting the wee bit of good natured banter spouted in these columns. We all know no offence is intended just a small attempt to engender camaraderie. Members are reminded the Supporters Club AGM will be held in the clubhouse on Monday 10th.May at 7.30pm, all members welcome. |
