Vale leave Annan in the shade

Annan's first pre-season game and a deserved victory in the heat for Vale of Leithen who should have been 2-0 up in 4 mins. Dongo opened the scoring ith a free header from a Shortreed free-kick in 2 mins, a couple of minutes later Vale hit the post and hit the rebound against the post. Annan playing 4-4-2 managed to eventually improve but found Vale very well organised and hard to break down. Annan came back into the game with the best moves on the right flank with Cox, Jack, L Sloan having the best chances.

H/T 1-0 to Vale.

A double save at the start of the second half from Summersgill denied Dongo, on the 50th minute Vale doubled their lead when a Tainish cross dropped behind Summersgill and hit the back post and bounced into the top corner.

Annan continued to play a patient game but the killer touch was lacking in front of goal. If Vale's second goal was a fluke the Annan goal was even moreso - a miscued clearance from Tainish this time ended up in the top corner of his own net from 22 yards out.

Not the best of starts for Annan but a few questions were certainly answered. For Annan the lively Cox and L Sloan did have promising games on their debuts.
