Annan Athletic retained their impressive unbeaten record in the SFL Reserve League after they defeated Queens Park at a damp Lesser Hampden on Monday evening.

All the goals came in the second half after the teams had went in goalless at half time.

Chances were few and far between in the opening half and although Annan enjoyed a large amount possession they were unable to seriously tested the Queens Park keeper.

Annan had goalkeeper goal keeper John Jamieson to thank for keeping a blank sheet when the he saved a 33rd minute penalty . It was a golden opportunity lost for the home team as Annan started to take control of the game in the second half.

Trialist Rob McGuire opened the account for Annan in the 46th minute when he prodded home from 4 yards after Derek Townsey’s had headed a Mike Jack corner against the bar.

It was just the tonic that Annan needed.

Substitute David Cox came off the bench in the 66th minute and 3 minutes later Cox put the finishing touches to a good move after Phil Storey spilt the home defence with a ball played into the path of Scott Anson who unselfishly squared to the unmarked Cox who side footed the ball into the net from 4 yards.

David Cox completed a good evenings work when he scored Annan’s third goal in the 89th minute. Kevin Neilson did well to head the ball in the direction of Cox and the he controlled the ball with his chest and finished with a clinical low shot into the corner of the net from 12 yards.

Annan’s next SFL Reserve League game is scheduled for Monday evening 9th November when  Ayr United visit Galabank kick off 7-30pm in the SFL Reserve League.
