CONGRATULATIONS!!! to the U20's for reaching the last 16 of the U20 SFA Youth Cup competition last Sunday, 21st October, against Montrose FC. here at Galabank.
Some really positive performances from every member of the squad. Especially with a Team which was basically thrown together. But what an opportunity for the new young lads who were asked to appear, for us to observe and monitor their performances in the hope of future interest. After conceding just after the half time break, Montrose took a great lift from their goal and at a really good time to score also. The lads were gutted, but to their credit they had a strong mentality and strength of character to believe they could turn the game around and that they did with great desire. Forcing Montrose on the back foot from the re-start, they started to take control of the game, and once we made three changes to the team, it asked questions of the Montrose defence, with the pace and sharpness of Sean Dunbar up front, causing no end of problems to the Montrose defence and Young Danny Graham in the middle of the midfield breaking up the Montrose midfield play and passing quickly to create openings for our front pair to have opportunities on goal. A penalty was our reward for our endeavour and desire. Competantly dispersed into the left corner of the net by Johnny Watson.
The game turned in our favour and it was just a matter of time in extra time when we would capitalize on our good forward play. Grant Middlemiss, administered the fateful blow to the hearts of the Montrose team, with a well drilled finish beyond the advancing Montrose Goalkeeper.
Well deserved over the course of the game and once you read this, we will know who our opponents will be in the next round. Again, fantastic lads and thanks for your attention on the day. Thanks also to our Coaching Staff on the day, Andy Aitken, Bryan Gilfillan, and Billy Bentley (Physio). Thanks also goes to Gordon Hyslop.
