Annan Drawn Away to Face Gala Fairydean in Scottish Cup

Annan’s reward for their 3-1 second round win over Jeanfield Swifts was an away tie to Lowland League side Gala Fairydean.

The draw was conducted by Dundee United player Charlie Mulgrew and Annan will make the trip to Netherfield on Saturday the 27th November.

After the draw, Charlie Mulgrew looked back on his memories of winning the competition twice with Celtic, scoring a memorable free-kick in 2011 against Motherwell.

He said: “The Scottish Cup is a tournament all players across Scotland want to be involved in for as long as possible and reach Hampden Park. I managed to win two with Celtic and it’s a brilliant feeling – a great way to end the season.

“The final in 2011 was an amazing day and my first season back at Celtic. I managed to get myself into the team around January and was involved in the Scottish Cup run. To score that goal and secure the 3-0 victory was a dream come true to lift a trophy.

“I remember watching Celtic play in the Scottish Cup when I was younger, in 1995 when things weren’t great at the club and they beat Airdrie. It was surreal to be involved with it myself.

“Those medals and jerseys are something I treasure. The biggest challenge is making sure my sons don’t wear them about the garden! Winning Scottish Cups are memories that last a lifetime so I’ve made sure to collect mementos from the day.

Looking back on doing the draw, Mulgrew said: “That was pressure! The 6 and 9 was stressing me out as I didn’t want to put them the wrong way up but we got there in the end.”
