Fitba First Kicks Off At Galabank

The club are delighted to this week be involved with delivering Fitba First in conjunction with the Scottish Football Partnership and the UEFA Foundation.

Fitba First was one of 67 projects chosen for support from over 1,227 shortlisted entries received by the UEFA Foundation for Children from across the world

What is Fitba First?

The ‘Fitba First’ project aims to invest in 600 young primary schoolchildren from all across Scotland to help maximise their future health and wellbeing prospects by providing free-to-access fun football activity, positive nutritional messages, healthy meals (breakfast and lunch) and bespoke training in Sports First-Aid.

Key Project Objectives

To provide 600 young primary schoolchildren with opportunities to take part in the following free activities during school holiday periods;

Free Football

Free activity will help challenge the financial barriers which currently exist for many children in Scotland. The project aims to use the positive medium of football to create a sense of inclusion at the same time as improving the participant’s physical and mental wellbeing.

Sports First-Aid Training

  • Educating children through sport. Increasing knowledge and understanding. Increasing confidence. Developing life-saving skills. Safer Sport /Safer Communities.
  • What to do in an emergency. How to call an ambulance. Chest compressions. Using a defibrillator.
  • Choking-how to help. Bleeding-what should you do. Injuries – when and how to use ice. Asthma attack-how to help.

Food and positive nutritional messages

Tackling food inequalities during school holiday periods with the provision of a free healthy breakfast and lunch, whilst providing positive nutritional messages around leading a healthy and balanced lifestyle.

Project delivery

The project will be delivered in partnership with 20 community football clubs throughout Scotland with specialist Sports First-Aid training delivered by tutors from The Hampden Sports Clinic.
