Match Report

Annan Athletic kicked off their Development League at Excelsor Stadium on Tuesday evening with a narrow defeat in an evenly contested match.

The hosts went ahead in the 13th minute with a goal which was more down to a mistake by the experienced Martin McNiff who was bundled off the ball by Kyle Richardfield and the powerfull centre forward made a bee line from wide on the left to goal finishing clinically with a low shot past Gary Black . Jack McCue then doubled the lead in the 40th minute, the goal was created down the right after a fine run by Jamie Watson who hit the bye line and finished by cutting the ball back to McCue who made no mistake from 5 yards.
The second half like the first was evenly matched with Airdrie United taking the game to Annan early on but as the half progressed it was Annan who were looking the more dangerous and it came as no surprise when Robine Omar finished a good evenings work for the young trialist when James Gillan threaded the ball into his path and finished with a low shot past the advancing keeper in the 85th minute. Annan piled on the pressure for the final minutes but despite some good work were unable to add to their earlier goal.
Annan entertain Queens Park in the Development League at Galabank on Tuesday evening kick off 7-30pm.
