Match Report

Annan Athletic recorded their third victory of the season against Brechin City at Galabank on Tuesday evening and it was a match with plenty of action but the 3 points gained by Annan following their victory over Cowdenbeath moves the Galabankies up into the play off positions for the first time this season.

Brechin got off to a flier when Ross Crawford connected with a free kick to head the visitors ahead in the second minute. Annan responded in the 5th minute when Nathan Flannigan latched onto a Kyle Wilkie through ball to slip the ball past the keeper. Scott McLean put Annan ahead in the 13th minute when he was put one on one by an excellent Flannigan through ball and McLean.

Back came Brechin in the 27th minute when Ross Crawford was at hand to slip Keiran Inglis’s back post ball into the net to square the match at 2-2. Annan went back in front 2 minutes later when they were rewarded a penalty kick after Wilkie was fouled, the spot kick was converted by Scott McLean to give Annan the lead once again.

Brechin’s chances were then dealt a severe blow in the 31st minute when Christopher McLauchlin was sentt off for foul and abusive language.

Annan brought on substitute Jamie Walker at Half time and the on loan St Mirren player scored Annan’s fourth goal in the 47th minute when he scored from 8 yards after Nade’s effort was saved by the keeper.

Annan had to wait until the 75th minute to score their fifth  goalthe move started in midfield when substitute Lewis McLear won the ball to send Scott McLean down the right and his final pass was perfect to enable McLear to slip the ball into the corner of the net.

More drama was to follow when Matty Douglas was sent off for a last man foul on Substitute Emile Ngoy
