Match Report

A very competitive friendly was viewed tonight from a decent turn out of fans from both teams.

Celtic Nation started the match very brightly and caused Annan a few problems in the opening minutes. The best chance for the away side coming through Douglas who looked certain to score but Watson managed to get himself in the way to block the shot.

Annan slowly got into the game and Hopkirk had a great chance when he went through on the keeper from the angle, his chip was heading for the corner until it was headed clear from the defender.

The Annan trialist in goal had to be alert in the 25 minute to pull off a great save before the hosts took the game to the visitors.

Hopkirk took the lead on the half hour mark after being set up by Josh Todd who squared the ball along the 6 yard box for Hopkirk to tap in at the back post.

Some half time changes for the Nation seemed to disrupt their play and Annan looked the more likely to double their lead for most of the second half. Even after Jim Chapman introduced a number of youths the Black & Golds kept pressing.

Our lead lasted until the final 5 minutes when our trialist keeper took too long on the ball and was caught out when the Celtic Nation striker (trialist) stole the ball from him and slotted home from a tight angle.

A good workout for both teams on a warm sunny night as we enter our final week of preparation before the competitive games arrive.
