Match Report

Dumbarton lifted the points in this Under 20 Development League match at Galabank on Tuesday evening with a comfortable 4-1 victory.

Annan started promisingly and the visitors had keeper Jamie Ewings to thank for pulling off 2 superb saves to deny Gillan and Omar in the opening ten minutes as Annan pressed hard for an opening.
It was however Dumbarton who opened the scoring in the 16th minute and it was a disappointing goal for Annan to lose when the Annan defence failed to clear a free kick and the ball eventually fell invitingly for Michael Hopkins to slip the ball into the net from 2 yards. Scott Davidson making a welcome return following his injury in the cup tie against Dunfermline earlier in the season equalised for Annan in the 37th minute with a cracking shot which cannoned of the post and off the back of the keepers head and into the net. Annan’s joy was short lived when another defensive error after youngster Scott Norman failed to clear another cross ball and Donald McCallum had the simple task of scoring from close range.
Two goals in a 5 minute spell secured the match for the visitors . In the 61st minute Michael Hopkins scored the best goal of the evening when he struck a glorious 20 yarder which deflected off the inside of the post. Donald McCallum finished off a polished performance from Dumbarton when he was at hand to tap in his teams fourth goal .
Annan’s next match in the Development League is on Tuesday evening 6th October when they face Morton at Cappalow Stadium Greenock, KO 7:30pm
