Match Report

Gretna opened the first of their pre season friendly matches against a bouyant Annan team who once again found themselves chasing the match after Kevin Connolly with acres of space rolled the ball into the corner of the net after only 2 minutes. It was a perfect start to the match for Gretna. Annan responded when Scott Roberts was put through by Aidan Smith.

Gretna doubled their lead in the 40th minute when their man of the match Kevin Connolly latched on to a quick free kick which caught the Annan defence napping and Connolly cool as you like slipped the ball into the net.

Annan pulled a goal back in the 42nd minute after Wison and Smith combined to send Scott Roberts clean in on goal and he slipped the ball past Jim Atkinson.

Scott Roberts missed a golden opportunity at the start of the second half when he headed past with the goal at his mercy. Annan were pushing hard for an opening and it took a brilliant Atkinson save to deny Max Wright in the 78th minute. Annan squared the game in the 80th minute when Scott Roberts clinical finish gave Atkinson no chance.

Ryan Sinnamon should have done better after Scott Roberts set him up perfectly but once again the effort failed to hit the target. Scott Roberts however had the final say when he waltzed past a couple challenges before finishing with a shot form 10 yards into the corner of the net.

Annan – Alex Mitchell , Jack Brannan, Michael Mullin, Ryan Sinnamon, Steven Swinglehurst, Ayrton Sonkur, Max Wright, David WILSON, Aiden Smith,  Scott Roberts, Chris Johnston – Subs all used Robbie Minto, Scott Hooper, Tom Emmerson.

It was good build up match for both teams as they move towards the start of the season. Annan conclude their build up when they face a St Mirren  team in a behind closed door friendly  at the Gartcube Sports Complex  Glasgow on Saturday KO 1-00PM

Gretna 2008 continue their build up to the season with a RaydaleCup match against Threave Rovers this Friday evening K0 7-30PM
