Match Report

Annan opened up their pre season campaign with a 2-2 draw away to English Northern League side Newcastle Benfield.

It was the visitors who were quickest out of traps and Josh Todd put Annan ahead in opening minute. The game then settled down before Newcastle Benfield equalised in the 28th minute with a glorious 20 yard effort that gave Alex Mitchell no chance.  Kieran Brannon latched on to a Bradley cross in the 40th mimute to give Annan a goal advantage going into the half time interval.

Annan changed their 10 outfield players in the second half and it was Benfield who levelled the score in the second half with a back post header from a cross played in from the right.

Annan boss Jim Chapman said it was ideal preparation to kick off the season. “We took 22 players through and they all got valuable playing time against very good opposition”
