David has signed a contract extension that keeps him at the club until May 2015

The 20-year-old, who is presently sidelined with a broken metatarsal, was due to become a free agent next month but boss Jim Chapman has secured his services for a longer period.

Chapman said: “I am delighted that David has committed his future to the club. There were a number of clubs monitoring David’s situation, which is no surprise as he is a good player, but he is remaining an Annan player which is terrific news.”

Hopkirk tweeted  “Delighted to have signed 18 month contract tonight , enjoying playing and learning every week , can’t wait to get back fit and kick on”
