Annan contested their last pres season friendly before the start of the Betfred Cup on Saturday but they found Queens too hot to handle as the Doonhamers ran out comfortable winners.

Queens opened the scoring on the 21st minute when Steven Riggs deft header from a Jordan Marshall cross beat Blair Currie at the near post. Annan had few chances but Max Wright squandered a good opportunity when he blasted over the bar from a free kick 20 yards out in the 33rd minute.

Dean Brotherston had an excellent effort in the 39th minute when his shot rifled over the bar. Queens were pressing hard to double their lead and in the 42nd minute Cuddihy came to Annan’s rescue when he headed Andrew Downies header off the goal line following a corner kick.

Max Wright finished a promising move for Annan in the 45th minute when his well struck shot was confidently saved by Lee Robinson.

Both teams made changes at half time but a bad made mistake by Adam Asghar presented Aiden Smith with a simple chance which the striker gratefully accepted. Annan’s defensive flaws appeared again in the 71st minute when Alex Mitchell’s error presented Derek Lyle with the simplist of chances which the striker gratefully accepted.

Annan’s econd half misery was completed in the 88th minute when Queens scored their best goal of the evening when Aiden Smith set up Connor Murray who headed home from 6 yards.

Annan start their Betfred League Cup Campaign off on Saturday when Stranraer visit Galabank kick off 3:00pm, This is followed by the visit to Ibrox on Tuesday evening and tickets for this match are on sale in the clubhouse price £10 and £5.00.
