Annan secured the runners up spot in the league when they battled out a draw against bottom of the table Queens Park on a sun drenched afternoon at Galabank . The match in all honesty was by no means a classic and a draw was probably a fair reflection on the game.

After a goalless first half where chances were few and far between but the second half had more to offer. The game came to life in the second half with both teams scoring at least to give the good support something to cheer. .

Andrew Mitchell came close in the 26th minute with a superb shot from 25 yards which went narrowly over the bar. In the 39th minute Brophy came close for Queens Park in the 36th minute when he collected a good ball from Keenan but his finish left a lot to be desired. As the first half drew to a close Scott Davidson tried his luck with a good effort when he cut in from the edge of the box.

Annan started the second half well and in the 50th minute Chris Jardine was presented with a glorious opportunity but Keeper Blair Lockhead pulled off a fine save to push the net-bound shot round the post for a corner kick. At the other end Craig Sutherland tried his luck but the shot failed to seriously test Kenny Arthur.

Annan went ahead in the 59th minute from the penalty spot.  Ross Fisher was put in a difficult situation by Paul Gallagher which ended with Fisher upending Andrew Mitchell who took the spot kick tucking the ball into the corner of the net.

Annan’s lead lasted 7 minutes when on loan Hamilton signing Eammon  Brophy finished clinically from 12 yards after Steven Swinglehurst failed to deal with a fairly routine ball. Chances after this were few and far between despite the introduction of host of substitutions.

Annan boss Jim Chapman commented “there were one  two bits that were decent ,but overall the performance was well below the standards set and expected. I am not making excuses the players have set higher standard than what was produced today but they have achieved the fantastic milestone in the clubs history in the  total number of points gained in one season with two games to go. The players have been left in no uncertain manner that it is very difficult  to lift the tempo within a game and also to get back into a positive momentum that will definitely be required for the play off games .We have 2 games to go so it is imperative that we get all the players focused on these games and the play off games ahead.”
