Morton secured the points in this Development League Match played at Cappelow Park on Tuesday evening courtesy of three first half goals. Annan pushed hard in the second half pulling a goal back before missing a late penalty.
Cameron O’Neil put the hosts ahead in the 13th minute with a deft touch at the near post from a David McNeil cross. Morton doubled their lead in the 26th minute , and it was a goal, Annan keeper Jake Gemmell will want to forget as it was his dread-full throw out which presented Reece Hands with the simplest of tasks to score from close range. Annans first half misery was completed almost right on half time when Reece Hands headed a corner into the roof of the net.
Annan pulled a goal back in the 66th minute when Peter Weathersons 20 yard free kick gave keeper Jamie McCowan no chance as he swerved the ball round the wall and into the corner of the net. The Morton keeper then denied Annan a late goal with a superb save from Scott Davidson’s well placed penalty after Weatherson had been fouled in the box.
Annans next match in the Development League is on Tuesday evening 14th October when they entertain Queen of the South at Galabank kick off 7-30pm.
