Muirhead Set For Galabank Return

Annan Athletic is delighted to announce that defender Aaron Muirhead has signed a pre-contract agreement to rejoin the club this summer!

Muirhead, 35, originally signed for the club as an 18 year old from Ayr United’s youth academy and went on to play for the club from 2008 to 2012 making over 100 appearances for the Black and Golds in that time.

Since leaving Galabank the centre back has went on to have a successful career, playing for clubs such as Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Ayr United and is currently with Arbroath FC where he picked up a League 1 winners medal last season.

The club is looking forward to Muirhead’s return and is excited to see him don the Black and Gold stripes once again! His experience and leadership skills will be a massive asset to the team.

“I’m delighted to be coming back to Annan after a long time away,”commented Muirhead.

“It’s the club where I made my senior break through so I’m really excited to be going back. I feel it was always going to happen and after a few years of Wullie trying to sign me, I feel that now is the right time to come back.”

“I hope I can use my experience of playing over 500 games, winning leagues and challenging at the top end of the championship and pass that on to the younger lads in the team both on and off the park.”

“I look forward to trying to help the club be successful and push at the right end of the table, also it’s close to home so look forward to having my family come along to more games”

Manager Wullie Gibson added, “Aaron is someone I know well. He’s a good leader on and off the pitch, quite versatile and has a lot of experience (most of that is in the championship with the likes of Ayr, Partick and Arbroath) He will not only add quality but aggression too, which is important as I think we’ve lacked that at times this season.”
