SFA PAN DISABILITY FOOTBALL LEAGUE SCOTTISH CUP CHAMPIONS

It was brilliant day at Little Kerse for the Scottish PAN Disability Football League Scottish Cup 2023 for both of our teams Annan Athletic Avengers and Annan Athletic All Stars with the All Stars coming home CHAMPIONS of the championship league 2/ league 1 Group.

As a mark of respect for our friend Gregory Hartnell from Annan Athletic Avengers and another teams player who passed away recently a 2 minute silence took place before the games

Annan Athletic All Stars

The All Stars were drawn in group A along with Giffnock Utd, Herm7, Partick Thistle & St James C.

All stars performed exceptionally well, winning all four games, scoring 9 and only conceding 2. This took them through to the Quarter Finals.

In the quarter finals they faced an organised Forfar side, but again, the all stars dug in deep and won 2-0, through to the semifinals.

In the semi-finals the All stars face Spartan Respects, once again a very tight game but the All Stars where starting to find their rhythm and won the game 1-0, into the final!!

In a repeat of the group stage game, the All Stars once again faced Hermes7 but this time for the cup. The game started furiously with both teams wanting the win and testing the goalkeepers early on. however the All Stars dug In deep and showed off some excellent attacking football, winning the game 3-0! All stars were crowned Scottish Cup champions.

Excellent result and a big well done to all Annan Athletic players and all the team who took part. A big thank you to our coaches who train the teams every week and support the teams at the SFA Pan League Days and to the SFA Pan League organisers.

Annan Athletic Avengers

The avengers were placed in a difficult group which included 2 of the tournament favourites. They lost by the odd goal in 7 against Milton and 5-2 against Spartans, the eventual tournament winners. They had a fine win over Drumchapel to ensure they qualified for the quarterfinals and finished the group off with another narrow defeat to Milton.

In the last 8, they were drawn to play against Milton – for a third time today. The Avengers played their hearts out. Diving saves from Jack and Nigel, ferocious tackling and tight marking from Robert Jason and Richard and clinical finishing from James, Eddi-Louise and Chris. The best performance their coaching staff had ever seen the squad play. The game ended 8-1 Annan, with Milton astonished at the team’s performance.

Annan were unlucky in the semi final and lost out to Greenock 3-1.In the play off for 3rd spot, annans weary legs couldn’t quite manage another performance and lost out to Duntocher.

The behaviour and sportsmanship of the Annan team was a credit to them
